What an incredible opportunity to dress up, smart up and gear up for a game of polo at Val de Vie Estate in support of breast cancer. The Cintron Pink Polo, held annually on the estate’s sweeping polo grounds, is one of the Cape’s most highly anticipated social and polo events – and, as we experienced first hand, for good reason. Enjoying High Tea, bubbly and martinis on the lawns, overlooking polo fields, mountains and vineyards, I became better acquainted with this fast, skillful and magnificent sport.
Yearly, Pink Polo has over 1 800 VIP hospitality guests in attendance, this year being no different. With the first-ever sunset after party, a Pink Food Truck Fair and pink garden offering a more laid-back vibe for guests (and children) to enjoy, the event was bigger and better than ever. It was an honour to be a part of.
Funds raised by the Cintron Pink Polo, brought to you by Val de Vie Events, will support Reach for Recovery, a registered PBO and NPO organisation. These will be used to assist women with their practical and medical needs in their fight and recovery from cancer. Simone de Wet, MD at Val de Vie Events, started the business in 2009 and, along with Edith Venter, began dreaming of a polo event that not only supports breast cancer research and awareness, but celebrates the people who have survived the battle. It has since grown from strength to strength.
‘We wanted to create something fresh, fun and relevant that every lady as well as gentleman in South Africa would be proud to attend and be associated with,’ says Simone. ‘The effect of so many speaking up and supporting a cause not only leads to greater awareness, but change.’
I was utterly spellbound at the power and skill of the ponies and their riders, and the speed at which the game is played. I loved the glitz and glam of the chic fashion show, the stylish guests and delicious spread of food (as well as the bubbly, never forget the bubbly). My new favourite sport by far, the Pink Polo was an unexpectedly fun and incredibly glamorous day on the sunlit grounds of Paarl’s beautiful Val de Vie Estate. I can’t wait for the next one!
