Love a good dive bar. Cool and alternative, Door 221 in Bree Street is a small but well-stocked bar that serves up excellent cocktails, craft beer and bloody delicious food. With the likes of Bacon on Bree, Culture Club Cheese and Mother’s Ruin Gin Bar at the top of Cape Town’s (only) street – let’s be honest – the addition of Door 221 to this eclectic mix keeps your options for after work drinks and a rad hangout with friends well varied.
Cocktails. You must know me by now, anything too sweet or too pink or too blue or too fruity is not my thing. Give me unsweetened and bitter. Kicking things off with my apt cocktail of choice, a Negroni went down swimmingly (R50). Bernard enjoyed Inverroche and tonic before we tucked in to the star of the day – the food.
We shared the pulled pork burger with zesty Asian slaw (R55), as well as the fish taco (R45). Tacos are totally trending right now, it’s like the Cape has finally cottoned on to well-done American favourites, and I’m certainly not complaining. Be sure to visit on Tuesday for taco Tuesday –it’s a vibe!
