It’s no secret we’re big fans of El Burro. From Cabrito to the Green Point shop and now the colourful taqueria in Kloof Street, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to authentic Mexican in Cape Town.
The menu consists of a variety of soft shell tacos, from pulled pork to fish to chicken, beef and vegetarian. Ranging in price from R30–35, the tacos come laden with guacamole, seasonal salsa and garnished with fresh coriander. Great as a starter before venturing for mains up Kloof Street or surrounds, it’s the ideal space to kick off a night.
If you’re still feeling hungry, do as we did and try the steak quesadilla (R35) or the zesty ceviche or salsa and avo salad with corn and red kidney beans (R30). De-licious and packed with flavour.
Although the menu includes margaritas and craft beers, the owners are still awaiting their liquor license. Choose instead a milky traditional horchada (R22), refreshing and delicious and perfect when paired with the appetising food. Ideal for families (these tacos are winners with the kids) as well as a light meal with your besties, the space is exciting and the energy contagious. A fresh, lively place to grab a bite.
