When you have the luxury of not being office bound eight hours a day, when your hours are flexible enough to set up your workspace in new surroundings that stimulate creativity more than the space you’re used to – that is a good day. At least, that’s what I’ve wanted for the most part of my short career. So it was a good day when Bernard and I took our laptops and decided to work someplace new. Someplace cool and edgy and calm and different to our usuals – someplace with good coffee and good wifi. We found it. Flatmountain Coffee Roasters.
Based in Woodstock, the team at Flatmountain not only strive to roast excellent coffee, but create a coffee experience. Inspired by authentic coffee origins, they pursue not only their love for coffee, but artisan roasting principles and living a craft life. The six different coffees are prepared, sourced and roasted carefully, respecting each bean and its unique nuances.
You know that coffee you brew painstakingly next to a fireplace, on a camping trip with your best mates? Or that first cup of coffee you brew with the sea air in your lungs, the sound of waves crashing that wakes you up? Or the flask of coffee you take with to enjoy after surfing the cold Atlantic? That’s Flatmountain. It’s about the life, the community, the experience.
Along with our day’s deadlines, Bernard and I had a flat white and pretzel baguette, crammed full of roast chicken, avo and tomato (R30). The space has a very Scandi feel to it, with blonde wood panelling, rope light fixtures and the coolest looking barista you ever did see. Friendly and welcoming, we felt like this had been our office for years.
