The most exciting, original foodie thinkers are featured this season to throw intimate, unforgettable dinners paired with Spier’s Creative Block blends. We joined Richard Bosman, mastermind behind Bacon on Bree, for a bacon and wine pairing dinner in his Loop Street shop.
The evening saw us taste the likes of pancetta roses, bacon tare and bacon rafute – all blissfully paired with Spier’s excellent selection of wines. Perfect as a glass on its own, but better when paired with flavoursome food, the combination of wining and dining at Bacon on Bree was an unmatched foodie experience.
The light, elegant decor, excellent service and friendly hosts made the evening fly by in a flash. Guests savoured the assorted courses with glee, and whether sitting under the trees on the outdoor terrace or indoors in the lively lit restaurant, it was a night honouring innovative and experimental cooking.
As is the norm at any foodie event, the food remains untouched until ample photographs are taken – because what’s a meal if not shared on social media? I really must commend and congratulate Spier and Richard Bosman on the successful execution of this evening. It is so refreshing – and rewarding – to be exposed to food and flavours that transcend the ‘norm’. For a chef to be given centre stage, to create his or her own delicacies and have that rebellion lauded as a central focus – and paired with delicious wine, it really recognises a chef’s creativity, and allows them a platform to explore their artistry.
The Spier Secret Festival runs until the end of October and I cannot recommend an evening enough. You will be exposed to an assortment of food and wine that is out of the norm – but bloody delicious. To get involved visit spiersecret.co.za or to book visit webtickets.co.za.
