I’m not ashamed to admit I’m going through a bubbles phase. Not even a phase, really, a lifelong enjoyment. The notion that bubbly is reserved for celebrations is ludicrous – every day is worth celebrating, therefore enjoy it always.
Taj Cape Town is a luxury hotel set in Cape Town’s vibrant inner city. Its elegant space is home to Twankey Bar, a finely furnished Champagne and oyster bar that welcomes visitors into its cosy armchairs and marble and chandelier finished space. Bordering on the Company’s Garden, Government Avenue and occupying two historic buildings, The Taj has an old world feel, and Twankey Bar is no different.
Whilst honouring its reputation for serving a selection of the finest West Coast and Namibian oysters (shucked to order), the Twankey menu also serves freshly baked croissants and pastries during the day, and a menu of assorted yums should your appetite need satiating later on. Along with a fairly decent wine list and bubbles (Môreson ‘Solitaire’ by the glass, thank you very much), Twankey has also met the growing need for local craft beers – order on tap or by the bottle.
It’s a noteworthy space for a business meeting, and the elegant but relaxed ambience is one we return to often. Added bonus: it’s ideal to grab a gentle round before making your way to the cigar and whisky lounge at The Taj next door. That’s what we did at least.
